2024 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- Total student headcount up 9% to 26,433.
- Overall course completion rates improved from 87.7% to 89.1%, first year retention rates increased from 78.5% to 80.5% and student reported teaching quality increased from 91% to 93%.聽聽
- 15% increase in the number of research outputs in Scopus-indexed publications, and External Research Income earned increased from $70 million to $79 million.聽
- Over $110 million was invested in capital projects in 2024, with new and enhanced facilities supporting future-ready learning.
- Total group revenue of $556 million, up from $502.7 million in 2023.聽

2023 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- The University celebrated our 150th anniversary during the year.
- Further growth in enrolments, with the highest number of total students (24,354), M膩ori students (2,289) and Pasifika students (792) ever.
- A notable increase in first year retention rate for M膩ori students (up 3.9%) and Pasifika students (up 6.0%).
- External research income increased from $57.8m to $69.8m.
- Total group revenue of $509m, a consolidated operating deficit of $14m, and capital investment of $67m.

2022 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- Record numbers of total students (22,734), M膩ori students (2,236) and Pasifika (670) students.
- Continued high measures of teaching quality (90%) and the proportion of graduates in employment or further study (95.3%).
- A continued increase in the number of research outputs, external research income, and the number of research degree completions.
- Total group revenue of $434 million, a consolidated operating deficit of $31m, and capital investment of $44m.

2021 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- A headcount of 20,919 students enrolled, including record numbers of M膩ori and Pasifika students.
- Improvements in students鈥 assessment of Teaching Quality and the Quality of their Entire Educational Experience.
- Securing more than $100m in research funding, with a particular focus on the green economy.
- The establishment of聽K膩 Waimaero聽| Office of Treaty Partnership, further growing the relationship between UC and mana whenua.
- A group operating surplus of $19m.

2020 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- A headcount of 18,771 students enrolled
- 3,644 students graduated
- UC has 1,395 academic staff as part of an overall workforce of 3,373
- UC, Ng膩i Tahu and Ng膩i T奴膩huriri establish the M膩ori Futures Academy 鈥 Tokona Te Raki
- Te Waka P膩k膩kano | Office of the Assistant Vice-Chancellor M膩ori, Pacific and Equity established in May 2020.

2019 Annual Report
Key highlights:
- A headcount of 18,364 students enrolled
- 3,644 students graduated
- UC has 1,909 staff
The year 2019 was a turning point for the University. In January we farewelled our former Tumu Whakarae | Vice-Chancellor (VC), Dr Rod Carr, who led the University through the earthquake response and initial recovery.
In February we welcomed Professor Cheryl de la Rey as our new VC, who joined us following nine years as VC at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
